GUIDED TOUR of SALERNO
Salerno, which was an important commercial hub in the Middle Ages, was a bridge between the Mediterranean and the east , thus favouring the birth of the famous Salerno school of medicine.
This lovely friendly town will charm you with its narrow lanes in the old quarters, its aristocratic buildings and its boutique and coffee shops with the backdrop of the magnificent Norman cathedral.
The splendid seafront with its views of the Amalfi Coast is enchanting.
Principal attractions for guided visits:
- Walk along the seafront and in the historical centre
- St Matthew’s Cathedral with its beautiful baroque crypt
- Minerva Garden with a panoramic view over the city (on request)
- St Peter’s court complex, with annexed archaeological area (on request)
- The Arechi Castle, a medieval fortress with spectacular views
- Entrance tickets are not included in the tour price

SALERNO'S ARTISTIC LIGHTS (From 2 up to 3 hours)
From November to January, Salerno is illuminated by splendid artistic Christmas lights, an event which was initiated in Turin in 1998 and adopted by Salerno in 2006.
The illumination route crosses the old quarters from the Concordia square to the Portanova square, with its Christmas tree and then to the Verdi theatre and famous "enchanted garden" .
There is also a spectacular view of the Minerva Gardens illuminated after dark.
VISITOR’S NOTE
- In the Christmas period, that is from November to January, the “artistic lights” visit will be in the afternoon if not arranged by private agreement.
- The Salerno half day tour can be combined with a visit of Paestum or a visit of the Amalfi Coast. In this case it is a full day excursion (7 to 8 hours).
